How to share the dividends of the gold market through Upway Global

Roughly 70% of global physical gold investment demand originates in the Asia-Pacific, yet the authority to set gold prices has long rested in London and New York. As the Chinese mainland steadily opens up its gold market, Hong Kong is drawing on its distinctive geographic, institutional and financial strengths to enter the contest for global gold pricing power — determined to bring an Asian-time-zone seat to the table where gold prices are set.

In this pursuit, Hong Kong has no intention of simply replicating London or New York. Its aim is narrower and more concrete: to fill the gap left by the absence, in the Asian time zone, of a price benchmark backed by local physical supply and demand — one that is both clearable and deliverable. The full blueprint behind Hong Kong's international gold trading hub is to build an end-to-end gold ecosystem spanning clearing, pricing, storage and connectivity.

On clearing, the Hong Kong Gold Central Clearing and Settlement System has commenced trial operation, supporting settlement in offshore renminbi, Hong Kong dollars, US dollars and euros. On pricing, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau has introduced the "Hong Kong Gold" (HAU) price code as the city's gold reference price. On storage, plans to expand Hong Kong's vaulting facilities call for total capacity to exceed 2,000 metric ton within three years. On connectivity, the Shanghai Gold Exchange has opened the first offshore delivery vault of its International Board in Hong Kong, alongside gold contracts deliverable in the city — an effective link between the Shanghai and Hong Kong gold markets.

At the policy level, Hong Kong's first five-year plan identifies gold as the entry point for building a broader commodities trading ecosystem. In the Hong Kong 2026 Policy Address, gold again emerges as the most notable new direction in the city's financial policy agenda.

For retail investors, Hong Kong's rising standing brings tangible benefits: lower transaction costs, a wider range of trading channels, and a local reference price during Asian trading hours.

That said, a shift in the broader market landscape does not automatically translate into easy profits. Retail investors remain the weaker party in gold trading, and something as basic as choosing a platform can matter more to the outcome than calling the direction of the market. Whether an order genuinely reaches the international market, whether client funds are properly safeguarded, and whether trading data is transparent and verifiable — all of these determine whether a strategy is executed as intended.

As a Class AA licensed member of the Hong Kong Gold Exchange, Upway Global has become a key channel through which many investors access the international gold market. Through Upway Global, investors can lawfully trade international precious metals products including spot gold and spot silver. The platform operates on an NDD (No Dealing Desk) and STP (Straight Through Processing) model: orders bypass any dealing desk, reach the international market directly with no manual intervention, and are filled at the best available price with zero latency. A bank-grade fund management system safeguards client funds and trading security on every front. Investors can also enable the trade code verification feature to confirm the legitimacy of their orders and retrieve detailed trade data directly with the Hong Kong Gold Exchange, protecting their lawful investment interests.

Hong Kong's push to build an international gold trading hub and compete for pricing power marks a significant step in bringing China's gold market onto the global stage. Retail investors looking to seize these opportunities should keep firmly in mind that all investment carries risk. Only by choosing regulated channels and taking a measured view of gold's safe-haven and investment value can they go the distance in the gold market.
